18th Annual Metabolic Camp at Emory University (Atlanta, GA)
On June 25-30, 2012 Emory is hosting it's 18th Annual Metabolic Camp at Emory University in Atlanta, GA! This is a model, research-based camp for young women 12 years age and older with PKU and MSUD, which focuses on building social support through a variety of activities including nutrition education, cooking classes, discussion groups, and local field trips. The camp typically accepts 30 attendees on a first-come, first-served basis. Registered dietitians from across the nation and around the world volunteer their time to serve as camp counselors, and nutrition students provide support as assistant counselors. The cost of the camp is $325.00 per person, which includes all sponsored meals, lodging, group activities, and field trips. Partial scholarships are available for certain financial circumstances. Check with your local RD and clinic to see if local sponsorship is available. More information about the Metabolic Camp will be available at www.metcamp.org . Contact Rosalynn Borlaza Blair (Camp Coordinator) at (404) 778-8521 or rborlaz@emory.edu . |

Advocacy Update!
Medical foods legislation has been re-introduced in the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives!
Senate bill: The Medical Foods Equity Act (S.311, formerly S.2766) was re-introduced by Senator John Kerry of Massachusetts! To read the bill and view the current list of co-sponsors visit www.thomas.gov, select Search by "Bill Number" and enter S.311 - we need your U.S. Senators to sign on!
House companion bill: The Medical Foods Equity Act of 2010 (HR.1311, formerly HR.4926) was re-introduced by Representative Tammy Baldwin of Wisconsin! To read the bill and view the current list of co-sponsors visit www.thomas.gov, select Search by "Bill Number" and enter HR.1311 - we need at least 100 co-sponsors!
To look up your Senators and House Representative go to:
http://www.npkua.org/index.php/your-legislators
Please help move S.311 and HR.1311 forward by asking your legislators to be a co-sponsor! Contacting your legislators will also raise awareness for PKU – this is so important to improving access to medical foods for all individuals living with PKU in Georgia and across the United States.
